Fans Crown Scott and Charlene’s Wedding as Neighbours’ Best Moment
The iconic wedding of Scott Robinson and Charlene Robinson, portrayed by Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue, has been voted the greatest moment in the history of the long-running Australian soap opera Neighbours. In a poll conducted by RadioTimes.com, fans overwhelmingly selected the couple’s nuptials, which aired in 1987, as the most memorable event from the series, with 49 percent of participants casting their votes in favor of this moment.
The poll included several other significant storylines, such as Harold Bishop‘s (played by Ian Smith) dramatic return after being lost at sea and a touching spiritual encounter with his late wife Madge (portrayed by Anne Charleston). Other notable mentions included the dream sequence featuring the dog Bouncer, Hendrix Greyson‘s (played by Ben Turland) heartfelt proposal to Mackenzie Hargreaves (played by Georgie Stone), and the infamous Fake Dee saga.
In a striking contrast, the second-place moment, where Susan Kennedy (played by Jackie Woodburne) confronted her husband Karl (played by Alan Fletcher) about his affair, garnered just 11 percent of the votes, highlighting the enduring popularity of Scott and Charlene’s wedding.
A television milestone, Scott and Charlene exchanged vows in front of two million viewers in Australia. The episode later aired in the UK, attracting an astonishing audience of 20 million viewers. Reflecting on the significance of their wedding, Donovan expressed gratitude for the fans who voted it as the greatest moment, stating, “What an honour to be part of an amazing cast of actors who’ve given so much to this show.”
As Neighbours prepares for its final episode, set to air in less than two weeks, the legacy of the show remains strong. The series, which has faced cancellation multiple times throughout its 40-year history, was last axed in 2025 by current producers Amazon MGM Media, who decided not to renew it beyond its latest commission of 460 episodes. Filming concluded in July 2022, with executive producer Jason Herbison stating, “Neighbours is a special show and it’s been a privilege to make the recent seasons for our loyal viewers around the world.”
As the story of Ramsay Street comes to a close, several fan-favorite characters are set to return for the finale, allowing viewers to reminisce about the series that has brought joy to many over the decades. While the show finds itself at a crossroads, there are hints of a possible future chapter, with Herbison suggesting that they are leaving the residents of Erinsborough on a hopeful note.
For those wishing to experience the drama and nostalgia of Neighbours, the series is currently available for streaming on Prime Video. The finale promises to deliver an emotional farewell to a show that has become a staple of Australian television and a beloved favorite for audiences worldwide.
