Carrickfergus Secures Approval for £70 Million Housing Project
The Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has granted planning permission for a significant housing development in Carrickfergus. A total of **403 new homes** will be constructed as part of a **£70 million** scheme. This decision was made during a meeting of the Planning Committee held at **The Braid** in Ballymena on **October 26, 2023**.
This development is expected to address the long-standing demand for housing in the area. The project includes a commitment to construct a “long-awaited” spine road, which aims to improve connectivity within the town and support local infrastructure.
Local officials expressed optimism regarding the project. Councillor **Paul Reid**, who serves on the Planning Committee, highlighted the importance of these new homes for the community. He stated that the development will not only provide much-needed housing but also enhance the overall living conditions in Carrickfergus.
The project is part of a broader strategy by the council to rejuvenate the region and attract new residents. In addition to residential units, the development is expected to create job opportunities during the construction phase, further benefiting the local economy.
Building plans will be closely monitored to ensure compliance with environmental and community standards. The council emphasized its commitment to sustainable development, which includes green spaces and facilities for residents.
As the planning process moves forward, the council will engage with local stakeholders to ensure that community needs are met. This includes addressing any concerns raised during the planning application process.
The approval of this housing scheme marks a significant step in meeting the increasing demand for residential properties in Carrickfergus, reflecting ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life for its residents.
