DWP Announces Adjusted Benefit Payment Dates for December 2025

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced the revised schedule for benefit payments during the Christmas period in December 2025. With Bank Holidays on December 25 and December 26, many recipients will receive their payments earlier than usual to ensure they have the necessary funds during the festive season.

Typically, benefits are deposited directly into bank accounts, building societies, or credit union accounts. When a payment date coincides with a weekend or Bank Holiday, the funds are usually made available on the preceding working day. This policy aims to minimize disruption for those relying on these payments during the busy holiday period.

For this year, individuals receiving benefits such as Universal Credit can expect adjustments to their payment schedules. If your regular payment date falls on December 25 or December 26, the DWP will typically process these payments on Wednesday, December 24. This change applies to most qualifying DWP and HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) benefits.

Additionally, some non-Universal Credit benefits that would usually be paid on December 25 or December 26 will be advanced to Tuesday, December 23. For payments scheduled on January 1, 2026, recipients can expect their funds to arrive on Wednesday, December 31. In Scotland, where January 2 is also a Bank Holiday, similar adjustments will be made, ensuring that payments due on that day are delivered on December 31.

Despite the changes in timing, recipients will receive the same amount of benefits as expected. The DWP advises individuals to report any discrepancies if their payment does not arrive on the scheduled date. Comprehensive information about individual benefits and their respective payment schedules can be accessed on the Government’s official website.

As the holiday season approaches, the DWP’s proactive adjustments aim to alleviate financial stress for many Britons, ensuring that they have the necessary support during this festive time.
