Symbiosis Produces First 10,000 Vials at New UK Manufacturing Facility
Symbiosis has successfully manufactured its first batch of 10,000 vials at its newly established facility in Stirling, UK. This production run supports a Phase III cancer immunotherapy programme, marking a significant milestone in the company’s expansion of sterile manufacturing capacity.
The new facility, which has received inspection approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is licensed by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), is designed to cater to the increasing global demand for injectable medicines. It provides enhanced operational flexibility and increased capacity, thereby supporting programmes from initial clinical development to commercial supply.
In a statement, Symbiosis highlighted that the expanded site allows for larger batch sizes and supports additional client programmes. This capability is especially crucial for organisations that are preparing for late-stage development and commercial launch of their products. The facility is a key component of Symbiosis’ broader contract manufacturing services, specifically tailored for sterile drug products.
Colin MacKay, Chief Executive Officer of Symbiosis, noted, “Manufacturing this first batch of 10,000 vials in our state-of-the-art facility is a pivotal moment for Symbiosis.” The achievement follows a period of sustained growth since the company’s founding in 2011.
Currently, Symbiosis employs over 150 specialists across four buildings in Stirling. The company continues to invest in its workforce, quality systems, and advanced manufacturing capabilities. As part of its goal to expand its role as a Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO), Symbiosis aims to strengthen its support for global pharmaceutical clients.
This production milestone further solidifies Symbiosis’ commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the pharmaceutical industry while enhancing its manufacturing capabilities to better serve clients around the world.
