Wrexham’s Maesgwyn Hall Offers Unforgettable £15 Carvery Experience
A popular carvery at the Maesgwyn Hall in Wrexham has been attracting families eager for a hearty meal, reportedly selling out every week. For just £15, diners can indulge in a robust selection of meats and sides, making it a sought-after option for those seeking a convenient alternative to the traditional Sunday roast.
Located adjacent to the renowned Stok Cae Ras football ground, the Maesgwyn Hall is an impressive historic building that previously served as a masonic lodge. After closing during the pandemic, it was revived by the owners of the well-known Fat Boar pub chain, which operates several locations across north Wales. The venue boasts a spacious layout, complete with a large free car park, making it easily accessible for visitors and football fans alike.
On a recent visit, the carvery experience began with a reservation made via Messenger, essential for securing a table at this popular event. Upon arrival, guests can enjoy a drink, with options like Wrexham Lager available. Though the venue does not serve tea or coffee, the atmosphere is lively, with various events taking place, including baby showers and gatherings of families.
As diners queue for their meal, the excitement builds. The carvery features a range of meat options, with prices set at £15 for adults, £9 for children under 12, and a mega plate for £19. Choices include beef, turkey, pork, and gammon, leading to lively discussions among patrons about their selections.
Once the meats are chosen, guests move to a well-stocked vegetable station. The variety includes Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, stuffing balls, honey-glazed parsnips, red cabbage, cauliflower cheese, and an assortment of greens. Despite some minor critiques, such as the Yorkshire puddings being chewy and the roast potatoes slightly dry, the overall quality of the food is commendable.
The carvery’s appeal lies in its generous portions and the comforting atmosphere. Diners remarked on the moist and tender gammon and pork, alongside the crispy stuffing and sweet honey parsnips. The creamy mash and vibrant vegetables complemented the meal well.
Desserts are available for £6 each, with options like chocolate fudge cake, apple crumble, vanilla cheesecake, and knickerbocker glory, although many diners opt to forgo dessert after the substantial main course. The Maesgwyn Hall also offers a starter menu featuring garlic mushrooms, prawn cocktails, pâté, and bang-bang chicken, priced at £6.
The environment is a mix of families, pensioners, and fans enjoying the camaraderie that comes with a shared meal. With attentive service from the staff, the Maesgwyn Hall creates a welcoming dining experience.
While some diners may leave feeling slightly overindulgent, the experience is undeniably enjoyable. The carvery at Maesgwyn Hall is not just a meal; it represents a community gathering, a place where friends and families come together to relish good food and company. As patrons finish their meals, they often find themselves planning their return, eager for another round of the delicious carvery.
