EastEnders Star Derek Martin Passes Away at 92
Former actor Derek Martin, best known for his portrayal of taxi driver Charlie Slater in the long-running BBC soap opera EastEnders, has passed away at the age of 92. Martin died in hospital on January 10, 2023, with the news confirmed by a family friend via social media on the same evening.
In a heartfelt announcement shared on Facebook, the friend expressed deep sorrow: “It is with deepest regret to announce that Derek Martin / Derek Rapp. Age of 92. At 7pm this evening, Derek has sadly passed away in Hospital about an hour ago. My Mum and his Son David was with Derek the whole time. Derek was truly an amazing person who was very talented in the filming industry and many other things. A great man, Father of two Sons & a fantastic family friend. We will miss you, Derek. RIP.”
Martin’s career spanned several decades, during which he appeared in numerous television series, including Law & Order, Eldorado, The Bill, and Only Fools and Horses. He even made a memorable cameo in Little Britain, playing himself.
