Former Love Island Star Critiques Shakira Khan’s Fame Comments
A former contestant of the reality show Love Island has publicly criticized Shakira Khan for her recent comments regarding potential fame. In a video shared on social media, Josh Ritchie, who gained recognition on the show in 2015, expressed his disapproval of Khan’s statement to fellow contestant Harry.
During a scene where Shakira and Harry were discussing life after the show, Shakira suggested that her newfound fame would prevent her from shopping at popular supermarket Aldi. Josh responded by stating, “You can’t say that,” and emphasized that Shakira’s belief she would become “mega famous” was misguided.
Ritchie, now 31, shared his thoughts with followers, stating that he found Shakira’s comment not only inappropriate but also indicative of an inflated sense of self-importance. “It’s not about shopping at Aldi because I actually don’t mind that,” he explained. “But it’s the fact that she thinks that she’s going to be famous. You can’t say that.” His reaction included covering his head with a blanket, clearly unimpressed by the comment.
Shakira, who is 22 and hails from Burnley, has had a challenging week on Love Island. Reports from The Sun indicate that she recently experienced significant emotional distress after ending her relationship with fellow contestant Conor. Following this breakup, she sought support from the show’s 24/7 duty of care team, even threatening to leave the villa altogether.
According to sources, Shakira became overwhelmed after Conor began dating another contestant, Helena, which led her to reassess her feelings and ultimately decide to end her relationship with Conor. A source close to the situation revealed, “Shakira has been through the wringer and was already at breaking point over her heartbreak by Harry.”
In a moment of vulnerability, Shakira reached out for help, stating her desire to leave the show due to her emotional state. Fortunately, after several hours of support from the duty of care team, she decided to remain in the villa.
While Josh Ritchie’s comments have sparked conversation among fans, they also highlight the pressures contestants face during and after their time on reality television. With the show’s popularity continuing to rise, the experiences of individuals like Shakira Khan remain scrutinized, reflecting both the highs and lows of life in the public eye.
