Jamie Campbell Bower Surprises Broadway Audience in ‘Stranger Things’ Spin-Off
Actor Jamie Campbell Bower made a surprise appearance during the performance of the Broadway spinoff Stranger Things: The First Shadow on December 19, 2025. Bower, known for his role as Henry Creel/Vecna in the popular Netflix series, delighted the audience with a one-time performance that coincided with the show’s final scene.
The stage prequel, which has been captivating audiences at New York’s Marquis Theatre since April, is set in 1959 and explores the early lives of characters such as Jim Hopper and Bob Newby. On this occasion, Bower returned to portray an adult version of Henry Creel, eliciting enthusiastic applause from the audience as he confronted a young Eleven in Dr. Brenner’s lab.
Bower’s special appearance was introduced by Louis McCartney, who plays the younger version of Henry Creel. During the curtain call, McCartney expressed his gratitude, stating, “To have him here tonight to share this moment with you all… it is such an honour.” He emphasized Bower’s significance to the production by saying, “Henry Creel is the dynamite of The First Shadow. Without you, nothing is possible.”
The First Shadow originally premiered in 2023 at London’s Phoenix Theatre. The story unfolds in Hawkins, a seemingly ordinary town grappling with its own challenges. The synopsis notes, “When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy… and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.”
This surprise appearance comes just weeks after the release of the fifth and final season of the original Stranger Things series. Volume one debuted on November 26, 2025, with additional episodes scheduled for release on Christmas Day and the series finale set for New Year’s Eve.
The buzz surrounding Bower’s visit has generated significant excitement among fans. Social media platforms lit up with reactions from attendees who captured the moment, showcasing the powerful connection between the show and its audience.
In a four-star review, NME praised the latest season, noting, “Stranger Things has a flair for epic and emotionally resonant storytelling.” This sentiment reflects the show’s enduring ability to engage viewers, even as it approaches its conclusion.
As the production continues to run, Bower’s surprise appearance serves as a testament to the strong ties between the cast and the broader Stranger Things community, further enhancing the experience for both new and longtime fans alike.
