Masika Kalysha Responds to Criticism Over Funeral Photos
Reality television star Masika Kalysha has publicly defended herself after receiving backlash for sharing emotional photographs from the funeral of her estranged husband, Jamar Champs. Champs, who was 38 years old, tragically died in a car accident in Houston last month, when a BMW struck his Tesla Cybertruck, which subsequently collided with an 18-wheeler.
Details of the Incident
The accident occurred on October 28, 2025, on the Katy Freeway. According to the Houston Police Department, Champs was driving when the BMW, traveling in the opposite direction, hit his vehicle head-on. The driver of the BMW was killed at the scene, while Champs was critically injured and later pronounced dead at the hospital. The truck driver involved in the incident was unharmed.
Kalysha, 40, shared a series of photographs on Instagram on November 25, showing her visibly distraught at the funeral. The images also depicted her two daughters, Khari, age nine, from her previous relationship with rapper Fetty Wap, and Amari, age three, whom she had with Champs. In one poignant moment, Kalysha was seen being supported by her father as she grieved.
Social Media Backlash and Response
In her posts, Kalysha expressed her commitment to honoring Champs’ memory, stating, “I took my vows. Till death do us part… I will carry on your legacy.” Despite her heartfelt message, many social media users criticized her for sharing what they deemed inappropriate images during a personal tragedy.
In response to the negativity, Kalysha took to her Instagram Stories to address her critics directly. She declared, “If you have a problem with ANYTHING I post on MY PAGE involving MY HUSBAND, MY LIFE, MY KIDS, or literally anything, I invite you to go f*** yourself and unfollow me.” She further emphasized her gratitude towards supporters, thanking them for their continued presence during this difficult time.
Despite her defiant stand, the trolling persisted. Some users mocked her for what they perceived as a performative display of grief. Comments ranged from disbelief over her choice to post such intimate moments to outright ridicule, with one user stating, “Masika is a sick lady to have someone take all them pictures of her crying at a funeral.”
Initially, Kalysha shared her grief with local media, explaining how Champs had treated Khari as if she were his own child, despite their separation. “I think it’s going to take a while to really, fully process things. And, you know, grief, it is a journey,” she told KHOU-11.
As Kalysha navigates this challenging period, she continues to advocate for herself and her family’s well-being, urging her followers to support rather than criticize during times of mourning.
