Rockstar Grants Terminally Ill Fan Early Access to GTA 6
Rockstar Games has granted a terminally ill fan the opportunity to play the highly anticipated game, GTA 6, ahead of its official release. This compassionate gesture follows a heartfelt request from Anthony Armstrong, a developer at Ubisoft Toronto, who reached out to Rockstar on LinkedIn about a month ago. Armstrong’s family member, battling cancer, had received grim news about their prognosis, with only six to twelve months to live.
In his initial appeal, Armstrong shared the urgency of the situation, stating, “A member of my family who has been battling cancer for years just recently got the worst possible news.” He expressed concerns that his relative, an avid fan of the Grand Theft Auto series, might not survive long enough to enjoy the game’s launch, which is scheduled for November 19, 2026. Armstrong, who lives near Rockstar’s Oakville studio, hoped to arrange an exclusive playtest for his family member.
Rockstar responded positively to Armstrong’s plea, recognizing the emotional weight of the request. After some weeks of communication, Armstrong updated his followers, saying, “The CEO of Take-Two reached out, and we are just waiting to hear from the Rockstar team to discuss this further.” He expressed gratitude for the support he received from the gaming community, thanking those who reshared his story and reached out to their contacts.
In a follow-up message, Armstrong shared more encouraging news: “We spoke to them today and got great news. That’s all I can really say, but thank you all from the bottom of my heart.” This interaction highlights Rockstar’s commitment to its fans and reflects the strong community ties within the gaming industry.
Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, recently released its financial report indicating that the launch of GTA 6 had been delayed from May 26, 2026 to November 19, 2026. The delay was announced to provide the development team additional time to refine the game, ensuring it meets the high standards expected by players. The company stated, “Rockstar has our full support, of course, and we are confident they will deliver an unrivalled blockbuster entertainment experience.”
As the gaming world eagerly anticipates the release of GTA 6, this story of compassion serves as a reminder of the profound impact that video games can have on individuals and their families. Armstrong’s efforts to secure an early playtest for his terminally ill relative showcase the game’s ability to bring joy and connection, even in challenging times.
