Strong Narrative and International Collaboration
Directed by Marko Naberšnik, “Belo se pere na devedeset” is adapted from the autobiographical novel of the same name by acclaimed Slovenian author Bronja Žakelj. The book has been one of the top literary bestsellers in Slovenia over the past few decades, resonating deeply with readers.
The film presents a poignant and intimate story about growing up, family, love, and loss. It follows the protagonist as she navigates various life challenges while striving to find strength during personal turning points.
The cast features a talented ensemble, including Lea Cok, Jurij Zrnec, Tjaša Železnik, and Vladimir Tintor, among others. The project is a collaborative international effort involving production companies from Slovenia, Italy, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, and North Macedonia. It is produced under the Slovenian production house Perfo Production, with the Montenegrin company Protos Film acting as a minority co-producer.
A Literary Phenomenon
The novel “Belo se pere na devedeset,” published in 2018, quickly became a literary sensation in Slovenia and the surrounding region. Žakelj writes with honesty and emotion about themes such as growing up, loss, illness, and the fight for life within the context of Yugoslav society during the 1980s and 1990s. The work has earned the prestigious Slovenian literary award Kresnik for Best Novel of the Year, further solidifying its impact.
With its gripping narrative and relatable themes, “Belo se pere na devedeset” is poised to resonate with Montenegrin audiences, marking a significant moment in the cinematic landscape of the region. Following its initial screenings, further showings in other cities across Montenegro are anticipated by the end of March.
