Thomas Skinner Alleges BBC Rigged Strictly Voting Figures
Former *Apprentice* contestant Thomas Skinner has claimed that the BBC manipulated voting figures during his time on *Strictly Come Dancing*, announcing his intention to seek “legal advice.” Skinner’s allegations surfaced shortly before the live final of the show, set to air on December 20, 2023. He asserted that an anonymous email he received, purportedly from a BBC executive, indicated he had received significantly more votes than reported.
Skinner’s casting in the popular dance competition drew controversy earlier this year due to his connections with JD Vance, the Vice President of the United States. The former contestant has faced scrutiny for his social media posts that he described as patriotic. He has stated that he is not a political figure but simply loves his country. Skinner’s participation ended abruptly when he was the first contestant eliminated from the competition in September, alongside his professional partner Amy Dowden.
In a detailed post on social media platform X, Skinner expressed his disappointment about not attending the final. He emphasized his friendship with Dowden, stating, “I’d never let her down.” He recounted the excitement he felt when offered the opportunity to participate in *Strictly*, admitting he was not a dancer but eager to step out of his comfort zone.
Skinner’s post revealed that he had been informed via the anonymous email that the BBC was “very angry and nervous” about his friendship with Vance. He noted that the email had been independently verified, prompting him to request the official voting figures from the BBC. However, he claims the BBC refused to share any data, stating that such information has never been disclosed in the show’s history.
He mentioned speaking with senior BBC staff and the welfare team, who advised him to seek legal counsel due to what he perceives as unfair treatment. Skinner described feeling isolated, noting that while all cast members received welcome gifts, his were reportedly “stolen.” He expressed frustration over being portrayed inaccurately by the media, stating that the narratives surrounding him have been exaggerated or untrue.
Skinner also hinted at a significant shift within the BBC following his claims, noting that a senior figure resigned shortly after he received the email, and the main hosts announced their departure the following week. While he clarified that he does not believe these events are directly connected to his situation, he found the timing coincidental.
The former contestant stressed that he did not intend for his situation to become public, but felt compelled to set the record straight to prevent further misunderstandings. He insisted he was not seeking attention and acknowledged his lack of skill in dancing. He expressed gratitude for the support he has received, stating, “I just believe in fairness and respect.”
As the *Strictly Come Dancing* finale approaches, Skinner extended his best wishes to the remaining contestants, who include Karen Carney, George Clarke, and Amber Davies, all vying for the coveted Glitterball trophy. This final episode will also mark the last appearance of hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who shocked fans with their announcement earlier this autumn.
Skinner’s allegations add to a series of challenges faced by the BBC One show, which has dealt with various controversies in recent years, ranging from bullying claims to substance abuse allegations. The BBC has yet to release an official statement in response to Skinner’s assertions.
