Together For Palestine Launches Charity Single ‘LULLABY’ for Aid
The charity initiative Together For Palestine has unveiled its latest project, the single ‘LULLABY’, aiming to raise significant funds for humanitarian aid. This release follows the success of their sold-out concert at Wembley, which raised an impressive £1.8 million. The team of artists involved hopes to secure the Christmas number one spot on the charts while generating hundreds of thousands in aid for those in need.
Over 15 UK and Palestinian artists have collaborated on this poignant reinterpretation of a traditional Palestinian lullaby. ‘LULLABY’ features contributions from notable talents including Amena, Brian Eno, Celeste, and members of the London Community Gospel Choir. This powerful adaptation of ‘Yamma Mweel El Hawa’ evokes themes of love, longing, and resilience, deeply rooted in the Palestinian experience.
Artistry and Message Behind ‘LULLABY’
The song expresses profound sentiments tied to familial love and the longing for home, resonating with the ongoing struggles faced by many Palestinians. The repeated call of “Yamma” (Mother) echoes the grief and sorrow experienced in moments of loss, reflecting the realities of life in conflict zones.
Arranged and recomposed by Kieran Brunt and Nai Barghouti, with English lyrics penned by Peter Gabriel, ‘LULLABY’ also incorporates lines from the acclaimed Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. The project’s concept originates from renowned artist Es Devlin, while the single’s artwork is the creation of Gazan artist Malak Mattar.
The accompanying music video, directed by Lina Makoul, is filmed across various locations in Palestine, including Gaza. It aims to showcase the beauty and resilience of Palestinian communities, countering the often one-dimensional portrayal of the region in global media.
“The world has been inundated with harrowing images from Gaza,” Makoul states. “While this has shed light on the Palestinian cause, it risks reducing our identity to that of victims. As a storyteller, I feel compelled to highlight our dignity and humanity.”
Support and Distribution
‘LULLABY’ is available on all major digital platforms, and fans are encouraged to purchase the single, with all proceeds directed to three prominent Palestinian organizations: Taawon, the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, and the Palestinian Medical Relief Society. The funds will be distributed through Choose Love’s Together for Palestine Fund, aiming to provide critical support to those affected by ongoing humanitarian crises.
As the release of ‘LULLABY’ gains momentum, its impact is expected to extend beyond the music charts, fostering a greater understanding of the Palestinian narrative and contributing to much-needed relief efforts.
