A mother from Gateshead, Vicki Ewart, has successfully shed an impressive 6 stone (approximately 38 kilograms) as part of her journey to a healthier lifestyle. Initially motivated by her desire to look good on her wedding day, Ewart has since discovered a newfound love for fitness and home-cooked meals.

At her heaviest, Ewart weighed 18 stone 7 lbs (approximately 117 kilograms) and found herself struggling with everyday activities. “Being overweight made me feel uncomfortable,” she shared. “I always thought people were staring at me, and I couldn’t keep up with my children.”

In pursuit of a healthier life, Ewart decided to make significant changes to her eating habits. She replaced her regular takeout meals, including her favorite Chinese dishes, with nutritious home-cooked options. “Now, I prepare a variety of protein-rich meals using chicken, mince, and salmon, along with plenty of fruits and vegetables,” she explained. One of her favorite dishes is a Cajun chicken pasta loaded with vegetables, which she enjoys alongside comforting classics like shepherd’s pie and Sunday lunch.

Ewart’s transformation has not only improved her physical health but has also enhanced her well-being. She now participates in sponsored walks of up to 10 kilometers without the fear of not completing them. “I used to struggle with knee pain and had difficulty breathing while walking uphill, but that is no longer an issue for me,” she noted.

The support from her Slimming World Group has been instrumental in her journey. Ewart joined the program 13 years ago and attends weekly sessions at Sherriff Hill. She credits her consultant, Stacey Evans, with creating a welcoming community that feels like family. “Stacey is the best,” Ewart said. “Her sessions are supportive, and everyone is there for one another, whether it’s a good or bad week.”

Ewart encourages anyone considering joining a weight loss group to take the leap. “You might feel nervous walking in on your first day, but you’ll leave feeling like part of the family. We all understand what you’re going through,” she advised.

Her story is a testament to the power of determination and community support in achieving personal health goals. As she continues her journey, Ewart remains focused on her health and the joy of being active with her children, proving that a healthier lifestyle is possible at any age.
