Major NHS Dentistry Reforms Set for 2026 to Improve Care Access

The UK government has announced significant reforms to the National Health Service (NHS) dentistry system, set to take effect in April 2026. These changes aim to enhance access to dental care, particularly for urgent cases, children, and individuals with complex dental issues. Dr Emi Mawson, a dentist, provided an overview of these reforms, highlighting their potential benefits for patients in England.

The Department of Health and Social Care has described the proposed changes as a “major overhaul” and “the most significant modernisation of the NHS dental contract in years.” This announcement follows a consultation with both the dental sector and the public earlier this year.
