Dance Enthusiasts to Experience Diverse Performances at Corn Exchange
Dance fans can look forward to an exciting triple bill at the Corn Exchange this season, showcasing a range of performances that blend tradition with innovation. Kicking off the line-up is the new Kathak production from the Amina Khayyam Dance Company, titled Story of One, Story of Many, set to premiere on September 24, 2023. This performance, choreographed by Amina Khayyam with music by Debasish Mukherjee, promises to take audiences on a powerful journey through intricate classical dance, expressive storytelling, and live music featuring tabla and cello.
The production emphasizes the interplay between Nritta (pure dance) and Nritya (expressive narrative), illustrating the cyclical philosophy inherent in South Asian classical arts. The performance holds that time flows without a beginning or end, with each beat encapsulating a story.
Dynamic Contemporary Dance and Iconic Ballet
Following this premiere, the energy shifts to the critically acclaimed production Hot House on October 16, 2023. Created by Richard Chappell Dance, this performance intertwines thrilling contemporary dance with an innovative soundtrack that includes elements from Chinese, Indian, and European classical traditions, alongside the pulsating beats of House and Garage music. The presence of a live violinist adds an extra layer of vibrancy, embodying the production’s themes of human connection, compassion, and courage.
Chappell’s choreography is celebrated for its striking physicality and theatrical lighting, making Hot House “a love letter to the way music moves us.” Based in Devon, Richard Chappell Dance has received national and international acclaim for its boundary-pushing work, including collaborations with prestigious institutions like the Royal Ballet and BBC Arts.
The season concludes with a breathtaking new rendition of the beloved ballet Swan Lake by Crown Ballet on October 19, 2023. Tchaikovsky’s iconic masterpiece continues to resonate with audiences, delivering a timeless story of love, betrayal, and redemption, accompanied by a sweeping score and unforgettable choreography.
Fans can expect stunning costumes and elegant staging designed to enchant viewers of all ages, making this production a magical experience for families and dance enthusiasts alike.
Tickets for these performances are available now through the Corn Exchange website at cornexchangenew.com or via the box office at 01635 522733.
