English Teacher Arrested After Threatening US Embassy in Montenegro
A professor of English from Rožaje has been arrested after sending a threatening email to the US Embassy in Montenegro. The incident prompted swift action from the police, who identified the suspect as A.K., a 35-year-old resident of the area.
According to a statement from the Police Administration, officers from the Sector for Protection of Persons and Facilities responded to a report that a threatening message had been sent to the embassy’s official email address. Following this report, urgent and coordinated efforts were made to investigate the situation. The Regional Security Centre “North” successfully identified and located the sender of the email.
Police in Rožaje acted quickly upon receiving information from the Sector for Protection of Persons and Facilities. A.K. was located and brought in for questioning, during which he admitted to sending the email from his laptop.
In continuing their investigation, police conducted a search of A.K.’s residence under a court order. They seized his laptop as part of the ongoing inquiry. The incident has been reported to the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Rožaje, which determined that A.K.’s actions did not constitute a criminal offense but rather a violation of public order.
As a result, A.K. was detained on suspicion of committing an offense under Article 7 of the Law on Public Order and Peace, which addresses insults and rude behavior. The police noted that A.K. is employed as a professor of English at a secondary school in Rožaje. Additionally, records indicate that he has a prior history of being reported and prosecuted for domestic violence.
This situation raises significant concerns regarding public safety and the appropriate measures for handling threats, particularly in diplomatic contexts. The police have reiterated their commitment to addressing such incidents with the seriousness they warrant, ensuring that any potential threats to public order are thoroughly investigated and addressed.
