Harrison pointed out that a common mistake is leaving phone chargers plugged in and unattended for extended periods, especially in high-temperature environments. “Your phone charger may seem harmless,” he noted, “but if misused or faulty, it can become a serious fire risk—especially in warmer conditions.” He emphasized that heat increases the likelihood of electrical components inside chargers overheating, which may cause sparks or fires.

One significant hazard is placing a charging phone on soft surfaces such as beds, sofas, or cushions. Harrison explained, “Soft materials trap heat and restrict airflow around the charger and device. This can cause the temperature to rise quickly, increasing the risk of overheating.”

Additionally, opting for cheaper chargers can expose users to greater risks. Harrison warned that low-cost or counterfeit chargers often lack essential safety features. “Using these can result in electrical faults, posing a serious fire hazard,” he stated.

Another danger arises from using chargers that are damaged or have worn cables. Harrison provided clear advice: “If you see frayed wires, exposed metal, or a plug that feels loose, don’t use it. These defects can easily cause short circuits and fires.”
