Heavy rainfall has once again led to flooding that has severely affected the Krasnić family in Nikšić, Montenegro. The family home, which has faced damage from adverse weather conditions in the past, has been inundated with water, complicating daily life for the seven-member household. This information was shared by the Center for the Affirmation of Roma and Egyptian Population (CAREP), which has been actively monitoring the situation.

The Krasnić family consists of parents and their five children, residing in the Trebjesa neighborhood. According to CAREP, the repeated flooding has resulted in significant material losses and a pressing need for additional support. The organization, in collaboration with the Volunteers Foundation of Montenegro, is providing temporary assistance to the family in the form of food and hygiene supplies.

Community Response and Support Efforts

The local firefighters in Nikšić have responded multiple times to assist in protecting the household from the rising waters. CAREP expressed gratitude for their efforts, highlighting the importance of community involvement during such crises. Local authorities, including Milajim Delija, an independent advisor in the Nikšić municipality focused on the rights of the Roma and Egyptian communities, are aware of the situation.

Delija stated that he believes there will be opportunities for long-term solutions to address the recurring flooding issues, emphasizing the need for collaboration between governmental bodies and civil society organizations. The hope is to explore feasible options that align with existing procedures and possibilities.

In addition to immediate support, the Krasnić family has expressed interest in employment opportunities, indicating their willingness to work. CAREP has issued an open call to institutions and public enterprises to consider hiring candidates from socially vulnerable families when job openings arise.
