Liverpool Offers 13 Drop-Off Points for Christmas Tree Recycling
Residents in Liverpool can recycle their real Christmas trees at one of 13 designated drop-off locations from January 2 to January 23, 2024. The initiative, organized by the Liverpool City Council, aims to facilitate environmentally responsible disposal of Christmas trees after the festive season.
Many households continue to enjoy the comforting atmosphere of a decorated tree after Christmas Day, traditionally leaving them up until the Twelfth Night on January 5 or the Epiphany on January 6. While a significant portion of the population opts for artificial trees, which are often viewed as more sustainable, real trees can also be recycled effectively.
When recycled, real Christmas trees can be shredded into chippings, which serve various purposes, including enriching parks or reinforcing sand dunes in coastal areas to combat erosion.
Drop-Off Locations and Alternative Recycling Options
The following thirteen drop-off points for Christmas tree recycling have been established across Liverpool:
– L4: Stanley Park, Priory Road car park
– L5: Everton Park, Viewing Platform, Netherfield Road North
– L7: Newsham Park, Gardener’s Drive, Sheil Road end
– L8: Sefton Park, Review Field, Ullet Road Gate
– L11: Croxteth Park, Oak Lane car park
– L15: Wavertree Park, Tennis Centre car park
– L17: Otterspool Promenade, first car park
– L18: Calderstones Park, Calderstones Road car park
– L18: Calderstones Park, Yew Tree Road car park
– L18: Menlove Avenue Triangle, Menlove Gardens/Green Lane
– L19: Long Lane Recreation Ground, Garston
– L24: Alderfield Road, Speke, by Millwood
– L25: Woolton High Street, Boys Club car park
Additionally, residents can take their trees to either the Otterspool Recycling Centre on Jericho Lane, Aigburth, or the Old Swan Household Waste Recycling Centre on Cheadle Avenue. Both facilities operate daily from 08:00 to 17:00 throughout the winter, excluding Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Charity Collections for Tree Recycling
Several local charities are also offering collection services for Christmas trees. The Woodlands Hospice Christmas Tree Collection and Recycling service will run from January 5 to January 9, 2024. Trees collected will be chipped to help maintain the nearby Bluebell Woods. A minimum donation of £15 is required for the collection, which is available in multiple Liverpool postcodes.
St Joseph’s Hospice will conduct their tree collections from January 17 to January 21, with funds raised going towards patient care. Volunteers will collect trees from various areas, and tree drop-offs will also be accepted at the hospice located on Ince Road, Thornton. Fees for the service are £10 for trees under 6 feet and £20 for those over 6 feet, with bookings closing on January 13.
To arrange a collection with St Joseph’s Hospice, residents can visit their website for more information.
Through these initiatives, Liverpool aims to promote sustainable practices while providing residents with convenient options for disposing of their Christmas trees after the holiday season.
