Montenegro Court Upholds 13.5-Year Sentence for Edmir Ramović
The Appellate Court of Montenegro has upheld a sentence of 13 and a half years in prison for Edmir Ramović, confirmed following the rejection of appeals from both the Higher State Prosecutor’s Office in Bijelo Polje and Ramović’s defense attorney. This decision affirms the original ruling by the Higher Court in Podgorica, which found Ramović guilty of murder in conjunction with illegal possession of weapons and explosives.
According to the court’s announcement, the sentence includes time already served in custody. Ramović was convicted of committing a serious crime but was acquitted of the attempted murder charge due to insufficient evidence. The court stated that no substantial violations of criminal procedure occurred during the initial trial or in the judgment itself.
The appeals lodged by both the prosecution and defense were deemed unfounded by the Appellate Court. It stated that the procedural integrity was maintained, and no significant breaches were identified that would warrant a reassessment of the case.
The final ruling, documented as case number Kž.br. 153/25, will be made publicly available on the Appellate Court of Montenegro’s official website on December 4, 2025. Ramović’s legal journey underscores ongoing issues within the judicial system, particularly regarding serious criminal offenses and their adjudication in Montenegro.
