Milan Knežević, leader of the Democratic People’s Party (DNP), has called on residents of the Zeta municipality in Montenegro to participate in an upcoming referendum and vote against the construction of a wastewater treatment plant. He emphasized that their participation is crucial in preserving what he describes as “the most beautiful plain in Montenegro.”

In a video message shared on Facebook, Knežević addressed various communities within Zeta, including Botunjani, Srpštani, and Mojanovčani, urging them to unite against the proposed facility. He framed the issue as a David versus Goliath struggle, appealing to local pride and ancestral legacy.

“It is essential that we believe in victory and in what we stand for. We must defend our sacred land,” Knežević stated. He urged voters to showcase their collective strength during the referendum, likening their potential impact to the unexpected success of the Argentine national team at the 1986 FIFA World Cup, where legendary player Diego Maradona played a pivotal role.

Knežević’s passionate appeal aims to mobilize voters by invoking a sense of historical significance and community identity. He believes that the citizens of Zeta have the power to enact change through their votes, which he described as a demonstration of courage and unity.

As the referendum date approaches, the local population is preparing to weigh in on the proposed wastewater treatment plant, a project that has stirred considerable debate. The outcome will not only affect the environment but also the social and economic landscape of the region.

Knežević concluded his message by encouraging citizens to emerge en masse and make their voices heard, ensuring that future generations can take pride in their heritage and natural surroundings.
