Nigeria’s Inspector-General Celebrates Promotion of 21 Senior Officers
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, recently honored 21 newly promoted senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force, asserting the need for ethical and results-driven leadership. The decoration ceremony took place on 23 December 2025, at the Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters in Abuja, marking a pivotal moment in the careers of the officers involved.
During his address, Egbetokun emphasized that the promotions reflect institutional confidence in the officers’ leadership abilities and readiness to assume greater responsibilities. He praised the Police Service Commission for its diligence and transparency throughout the promotion process, acknowledging the sacrifices made by the officers’ families in support of their careers.
Egbetokun urged the newly promoted officials to justify their advancements by maintaining the highest standards of ethics, professionalism, and accountability. He stressed that effective leadership is essential for improving operational performance and enhancing public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.
Significant Promotions and Transparency in Process
The decoration event showcased a notable elevation within the ranks of the police force. One Assistant Inspector-General of Police was promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police, seven Commissioners of Police were elevated to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, and thirteen Deputy Commissioners of Police became substantive Commissioners of Police.
This round of promotions followed a comprehensive and transparent exercise conducted by the Police Service Commission, which saw a total of 1,210 officers promoted nationwide. The newly decorated officers included Deputy Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Usaini Gumel, along with Assistant Inspectors-General of Police such as Ihebom M. Chukwuma, Olatokunbo Maxwell Olabisi, and others.
In his closing remarks, Egbetokun reiterated the importance of the roles these officers will play in shaping the future of the police force. He expressed hope that their promotions would inspire a renewed commitment to serve the public with integrity and dedication. The event not only celebrated individual achievements but also reinforced the overarching goal of fostering a more professional and accountable police service in Nigeria.
