West Northamptonshire Council Seeks Views on Jetty Behaviour Order
West Northamptonshire Council has initiated a public consultation to gauge community opinions on extending a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) that currently governs activity at Francis Jetty in Northampton. This order aims to tackle ongoing issues related to anti-social behaviour in the area, which has raised concerns among residents and local authorities alike.
The consultation invites feedback from the public regarding the effectiveness of the existing PSPO and whether its extension would enhance safety and community cohesion. The council’s decision follows reports of increased disturbances, including noise complaints and instances of vandalism, which have adversely affected the quality of life for those living near the jetty.
Details of the Public Consultation
The council is encouraging residents to participate by submitting their views through an online survey, which will remain open until November 15, 2023. This initiative aims to ensure that the voices of the local community are heard in the decision-making process. Council members emphasize the importance of community input in shaping policies that directly impact public spaces.
According to a spokesperson for West Northamptonshire Council, “The feedback we receive will play a crucial role in determining the future of the Public Spaces Protection Order at Francis Jetty. We urge all residents to share their experiences and suggestions.”
The PSPO, originally established in 2021, was designed to empower law enforcement and local authorities to take action against behaviours deemed detrimental to the community. If the extension is approved, it will continue to provide a framework for addressing anti-social activities, including public drinking and littering.
Community Impact and Next Steps
Local residents have expressed mixed feelings about the PSPO. Some believe that the measures have successfully reduced disturbances, while others argue that more needs to be done to foster a welcoming environment at Francis Jetty. The council’s outreach efforts aim to balance these perspectives and create a safer public space for everyone.
The results of the consultation will be analyzed and presented to the council by the end of November. Any proposed changes to the PSPO will be communicated to the public before implementation, ensuring transparency in the process.
As the consultation period progresses, West Northamptonshire Council remains committed to addressing the concerns of the community while enhancing the safety and enjoyment of Francis Jetty. Residents are encouraged to participate actively and contribute to shaping the future of this important local space.
