A significant £6 million renovation project is underway at the University of Warwick, aimed at transforming the Vanguard Centre into a state-of-the-art innovation hub. This initiative will enhance the facility by providing a total of 13,600 square feet of laboratory space and 8,000 square feet of modern office space, making it a key resource for businesses in the region.

Modern Features and Sustainability

The upgraded Vanguard Centre will include modern meeting rooms and collaborative workspaces designed to foster innovation and cooperation among tenants. The project emphasizes sustainability, featuring electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and electric-only systems, along with high Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) and Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) ratings. These elements underscore the University of Warwick’s commitment to creating an environmentally responsible facility.

Contractors DENTON are leading the renovation, with an expected completion date set for mid-2026. The strategic location of the Vanguard Centre, coupled with competitive pricing, is anticipated to attract a variety of businesses throughout the West Midlands.

Addressing Regional Needs

Emma Turner, Business Development Manager at the University of Warwick, highlighted the demand for laboratory space in the region. “Availability of lab space within the region is a challenge for many businesses needing to find suitable premises and is at a significant premium due to lack of supply in areas of high demand,” she stated. Turner expressed confidence that the Vanguard Centre would serve as an ideal base for companies seeking modern research and development space.

Rob Carr, Head of Construction at DENTON, echoed her sentiments, stating, “We are really pleased to play a key part in transforming the Vanguard Centre into a space that cutting-edge life science companies can get excited about. We know what it takes to create environments where specialist organisations can thrive. We are excited to bring the vision for the Vanguard Centre to life and create a building the Midlands can be proud of.”

This project represents a significant investment in the future of research and innovation in the West Midlands, promising to enhance the local economy and support business growth in the region.
