Micro Component Group Showcases PCE Innovations at MD&M West
The Micro Component Group (MCG) will showcase its advanced photo-chemical etching (PCE) technology at the upcoming MD&M West event in Anaheim from February 3 to 5, 2026. Attendees are invited to visit Booth 1587 to discover how this innovative technology is facilitating the development of smaller, more efficient metal components for medical devices.
As the medical field evolves, manufacturers are increasingly challenged by traditional manufacturing methods such as stamping, laser cutting, and machining. These processes often introduce issues like burrs, stress, and heat-affected zones, which can compromise the integrity and performance of medical devices. MCG’s PCE technology is designed to address these challenges, particularly for micro-scale medical components, including micro-needles for drug delivery, precision structures for diagnostics, and ultra-fine components used in cosmetic treatments.
PCE provides significant advantages by enabling the formation of components with sharp geometries, consistent apertures, and tight dimensional control. This method eliminates the introduction of stress and burrs, which are critical for ensuring performance, safety, and patient comfort. By producing stress-free, burr-free metal components, PCE enhances the cleanliness and safety of medical devices, essential attributes in today’s health care landscape.
Innovative Manufacturing Solutions for Medical Devices
At MD&M West, MCG will emphasize the collaboration between two key entities within its group: micrometal GmbH and Thin Metal Parts (TMP Inc.). Micrometal’s highly automated PCE platform allows for scalable and repeatable production, facilitating swift iterations from early development stages to high-volume manufacturing. This capability helps engineering teams avoid delays and cost burdens associated with hard tooling.
TMP complements this with its diverse manufacturing capabilities, including electroforming, laser cutting, and Mylar imaging, providing hybrid approaches when design requirements necessitate flexibility. This combination allows manufacturers to push design boundaries while maintaining quality and precision.
Jochen Kern, Head of Sales & Marketing at MCG, states, “Innovation thrives when manufacturing keeps pace with design, and that’s exactly what PCE delivers.” He highlights that producing complex, high-precision metal components without stress or burrs is becoming a fundamental requirement in the medical device sector.
David Faris, Director of Sales for North America, adds, “We’re not just manufacturers — we’re development partners. If you’re trying to push a design beyond what conventional processes can reliably deliver, we’ll help you get there with a process that supports innovation at every step.”
Explore PCE Benefits at MD&M West
Attendees are encouraged to visit Booth 1587 to review sample components and discuss specific application challenges. MCG aims to demonstrate how PCE can streamline development cycles while enhancing quality and repeatability in the creation of complex medical devices.
With the growing demand for advanced medical technologies, MCG’s focus on innovative manufacturing solutions highlights its commitment to improving patient outcomes and supporting engineers in their design efforts. As the landscape of medical devices continues to evolve, the role of efficient and precise manufacturing processes like PCE will only become more vital.
