Perceptra Secures €1.2 Million to Advance Photonic Sensor Technology
Perceptra has successfully raised €1.2 million in funding to enhance the development and commercialization of its innovative photonic chip-based Raman sensors. This investment, which includes a loan from PhotonDelta, represents a significant step in the startup’s journey to transform its research into a scalable business.
Amir Atabaki, the CEO of Perceptra, highlighted the importance of this funding, stating, “PhotonDelta’s funding marks a milestone moment in turning our research into a scalable venture.” He elaborated on how integrated photonics is revolutionizing molecular sensing, allowing Perceptra to accelerate its development and gain access to top-tier fabrication capabilities. This collaboration aims to bring the company’s first photonic sensing products to market.
The funding follows Perceptra’s recognition as a winner of the 2025 Global Photonics Engineering Contest for its ultra-compact photonic chip-based Raman sensor, designed for real-time molecular monitoring in the biomanufacturing sector. This technology stands out by replacing traditional, bulky dispersive spectrometers with on-chip tunable lasers, making it a promising solution for various process industries.
Advancing Research through Collaboration
With the recent funding, Perceptra plans to further develop a photonic integrated circuit (PIC)-based version of its system, building on its proof-of-concept success. The company is also set to relocate its integrated photonic research and development to the Netherlands, joining the expansive PhotonDelta ecosystem. This strategic move aims to leverage the collaborative environment in the Netherlands, fostering innovation and growth in the photonics field.
Atabaki emphasized the strategic advantages of joining PhotonDelta, stating that the partnership will significantly enhance their capacity to bring cutting-edge technology to the market. The integrated photonics landscape is rapidly evolving, and Perceptra is keen to stay at the forefront of this transformation.
The funding received from PhotonDelta is a pivotal moment not only for Perceptra but also for the broader field of molecular sensing. As industries increasingly demand real-time monitoring solutions, the development of low-cost and compact sensors is becoming essential. Perceptra’s work in this area could have far-reaching implications for sectors such as pharmaceuticals, food safety, and environmental monitoring.
As Perceptra embarks on this next chapter, the eyes of the technology and business communities will be watching closely, eager to see how this funding translates into tangible products and advancements in the field of photonics.
