Art Exhibition “Colors of Recovery” Showcases Healing Through Creativity
An art exhibition titled “Colors of Recovery” opened on the evening of October 5, 2023, at the “Art” Gallery in Podgorica, Montenegro. The exhibition presents a unique perspective into the lives of patients from the Day Hospital of the Psychiatry Clinic at the Clinical Centre of Montenegro. The artworks, created through occupational and creative therapy, not only showcase artistic forms but also intimate narratives about personal recovery, the power of creativity, and the importance of mental health care.
Creativity as a Therapeutic Tool
The Director of the Psychiatry Clinic, Dr. Aleksandar Popović, emphasized the crucial role of creativity in the healing process. He noted that it serves as a powerful therapeutic tool. “Recovery is not just about diagnosis and therapy; it involves a quality relationship and the dedication of staff towards patients,” said Popović.
Dr. Aleksandar Radović, Director of the Clinical Centre of Montenegro, highlighted that the Day Hospital recently commenced operations. He spoke about the significance of modern approaches in mental health treatment. “This is just one example of occupational therapy, demonstrating how our society should evolve into a modern and responsible community that recognizes everyone has varying degrees of challenges,” Radović remarked. “Some manage to cope alone, while others require assistance. In such situations, there should be no shame in seeking help.”
Art as a Reflection of Recovery
Dr. Tea Đakić, Head of the Day Hospital, explained that the title “Colors of Recovery” emerged naturally. She described recovery as a multifaceted and colorful journey, as reflected in the diverse shades, textures, and brushstrokes of the artworks. “Recovery is not solely a matter of clinics, outpatient services, or medication; it also involves a deep connection with oneself and others. It is within these spaces that the magic of recovery occurs, showcasing how resilient and vital human potential and creativity can be,” Đakić stated.
The exhibition carries a humanitarian element, with all proceeds from the sale of the artworks directed towards acquiring materials for therapeutic activities and further support for patients. The organizers of the exhibition include the Clinical Centre of Montenegro – Psychiatry Clinic and the Day Hospital Department, along with the Culture Secretariat and the Museums and Galleries of Podgorica.
The exhibition will remain open to the public on October 6, 2023, from 17:00 to 21:00.
