Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s head coach, Scott Kellacher, has paid homage to striker Billy Mckay, who recently achieved a remarkable milestone by scoring his 200th professional goal. The 37-year-old player and assistant manager celebrated this feat during a dominant 9-0 victory over Dumbarton in the KDM Evolution Trophy last week. Mckay has also solidified his legacy as the club’s all-time top scorer, netting 127 goals in 359 appearances across all competitions.

Mckay’s recent performance has not only highlighted his scoring prowess but has also underscored his vital role in the team’s success this season. He has reached double figures for the current campaign, with his recent goals bringing his season total to 10. He trails only Alfie Bavidge, the club’s top scorer with 14 goals, and Chanka Zimba, who has 13 goals.

Kellacher expressed his admiration for Mckay, stating, “He is relentless and brilliant. I can’t speak highly enough of how he focuses on being assistant manager while also playing. He knows what it is all about, and he is desperate to keep scoring goals.” The coach further emphasized Mckay’s natural finishing ability, asserting that he remains a valuable asset to the team, regardless of age or past injuries.

Despite Mckay’s achievements, the team faced a setback last weekend, suffering their third defeat of the season with a 1-0 loss against Stenhousemuir. The only goal of the match came from Oliver Whyte midway through the second half. Even with a late red card for Stenhousemuir’s Leyton Grant, Inverness could not find an equalizer.

Currently, Inverness Caledonian Thistle remains at the top of League One, leading by three points over Stenhousemuir and holding a game in hand. Kellacher expressed disappointment over the loss, noting that while the team started well, they ultimately fell short of their usual performance standards.

“It’s a sore one to take,” he remarked in an interview post-match. “I thought we started the game well enough in the first 20 minutes and looked okay, but overall, it was a poor game of football. We didn’t create enough chances, and we didn’t keep the ball well enough or win enough second balls.”

As the season progresses, both Mckay and Kellacher will be looking to rebound from this defeat. With Mckay’s striking capabilities and leadership qualities, Inverness Caledonian Thistle aims to maintain their position at the top of the league and continue their pursuit of success.
