Campbell Hatton Retires from Boxing at 24, Embraces New Career

Campbell Hatton, a promising boxer, has made the decision to retire from the sport at the age of 24. The announcement comes from his father, the renowned two-weight world champion Ricky Hatton, who revealed that Campbell will transition into a career as a solar panel installer. This shift follows a disappointing performance in the ring, including his last fight in October 2023, where he suffered a second consecutive defeat to James Flint.

Throughout his professional career, Hatton achieved a record of 14 wins and 2 losses, showcasing early potential by winning his first 12 fights. He was initially part of the same management team as boxing superstar Anthony Joshua, but his trajectory took a downturn over the past two years. Ricky Hatton commented on his son’s decision, stating, “No, Campbell won’t fight again,” during an interview with Boxing Now.

Reflecting on Campbell’s journey, Ricky noted the lack of extensive amateur experience that could have better prepared him for the professional ranks. “He gave it a go in the amateurs, and then he went pro and gave it a go,” he said. Campbell fought for the Area title but faced setbacks, including a closely contested loss. Ricky believed his son won their rematch but acknowledged the challenges that followed, saying, “He lost a little bit of his mojo, and then a few things went wrong.”

In March 2023, Ricky took on the role of his son’s trainer, a decision that came before their discussions about retirement. The emotional toll of personal loss also impacted Campbell’s performance. Ricky mentioned that the death of one of Campbell’s close friends weighed heavily on him in recent months. “He went through a bit for a time, and he was in the gym, and his heart wasn’t in it,” Ricky explained.

He advised Campbell to consider stepping away from the sport, emphasizing the seriousness of boxing. “You can’t play boxing, you can play any other sport. So I advised him, and now he is doing solar panels,” Ricky noted, highlighting the importance of mental and emotional well-being in sports.
