Criticism Mounts Against Podgorica Water Director Amid Ongoing Issues
Concerns are growing regarding the management of Podgorica’s water supply, particularly the ongoing issues with water quality from the Mareza source. Aleksandar Nišavić, the director of Vodovod Podgorica, has faced significant criticism for his handling of the situation, with local political figures questioning his explanations for the persistent turbidity in the water.
Andrija Klikovac, head of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) in the capital’s Assembly, highlighted several reasons that Nišavić has cited for the water contamination. These include aging pipes, malfunctioning SCADA systems, a recent earthquake in Nikšić, excessive rainfall, the construction of nearby estates, and a blocked channel at Mareza. Klikovac expressed his frustration, stating that despite these claims, the water remains unclear.
In a post on social media platform X, Klikovac stated, “The worst director of Vodovod PG, Nišavić, has come up with various excuses for the turbidity of the water from Mareza. Despite these explanations, the water continues to be murky.” He further criticized Nišavić’s competence, suggesting that the situation has inadvertently benefited companies that import bottled water, which he described as “especially grateful and satisfied” with Nišavić’s performance.
The ongoing challenges with the water supply have raised questions about the quality and safety of drinking water in Podgorica. Residents have expressed their concerns over the reliability of the city’s water services and the potential health risks posed by contaminated water.
As the situation develops, the public is increasingly vocal about the need for accountability in the management of Podgorica’s water resources. The criticisms directed at Nišavić reflect broader frustrations among citizens regarding municipal services and the efficacy of local governance. The overall sentiment suggests a demand for more transparent communication and effective solutions to ensure safe drinking water for the city’s population.
The implications of these water quality issues extend beyond public health, potentially affecting local businesses that rely on consistent water supply. With the criticism mounting, it remains to be seen how Vodovod Podgorica will address these challenges and restore public confidence in its services.
