Crystal Palace Eyes Brennan Johnson Transfer in January Window
Crystal Palace is actively pursuing a transfer for Tottenham Hotspur forward Brennan Johnson during the upcoming January transfer window. Sources indicate that securing an attacker has become a priority for the club as the window opens in just 13 days.
Tottenham is reportedly open to offers for Johnson, who has experienced a limited role under manager Thomas Frank this season. The club expects an offer around £35 million to facilitate a potential move. Johnson, who scored the decisive goal in last season’s Europa League final, has started only six of Spurs’ 16 Premier League matches thus far, netting four goals in a total of 875 minutes across all competitions.
The 24-year-old forward joined Tottenham from Nottingham Forest in September 2023 for a fee exceeding £45 million. During his time at Forest, he impressed with 29 goals and 12 assists in 108 senior appearances. As he prepares for a critical international break in March, Johnson’s performance will be under scrutiny, especially with Wales facing Bosnia and Herzegovina in a World Cup play-off semi-final. A victory would set up a match against either Italy or Northern Ireland for a coveted spot in the 2026 World Cup.
With Wales at a pivotal point in their quest for World Cup qualification, Johnson’s desire for regular club football may motivate a move. Crystal Palace is particularly eager to bolster their attacking options following the departure of Ismaila Sarr to the Africa Cup of Nations. Manager Oliver Glasner has consistently emphasized the need for attacking reinforcements, and Johnson’s versatility allows him to play effectively on both flanks.
Currently, Glasner’s attacking options are limited, especially with Daichi Kamada sidelined for ten weeks due to injury. With Sarr on international duty, the manager relies on Eddie Nketiah, Yeremy Pino, Romain Esse, and Justin Devenny as his primary choices for the wing positions.
Palace’s recruitment efforts extend beyond attackers; the club is also seeking a wing-back to strengthen their right flank. Colombian international Daniel Munoz is set to miss several weeks post-knee surgery, leaving Nathaniel Clyne as the sole natural option for the right wing-back role.
As the January transfer window approaches, Palace’s ambitions to enhance their squad could lead to significant changes. With the stakes high, both the club and Johnson will be eager to find a resolution that benefits all parties involved.
