FC Barcelona’s Rising Star Sama Nomoko Set for Year-Long Recovery
FC Barcelona’s promising young talent, Sama Nomoko, will be out of action for an entire year following knee surgery. The club confirmed on Wednesday that the 17-year-old winger underwent an operation earlier this week to repair a torn ligament in his right knee, along with a meniscus injury sustained during a UEFA Youth League match last week.
Nomoko’s injury occurred during a victory in the prestigious youth competition, where he was instrumental in leading his team to the knockout stages. The operation took place on Tuesday, and recovery is expected to take approximately 12 months, according to the club’s announcement.
Impact on Barcelona’s Youth Setup
Having joined FC Barcelona when he was just eight years old, Nomoko’s journey through the club’s famed youth academy has been notable. He progressed steadily through the ranks, culminating in his promotion to the B team this past summer. Under the guidance of coach Juliano Belletti, the young winger quickly established himself as a key player, contributing two goals and four assists in 14 appearances this season.
Despite being one of the youngest members of the team, Nomoko’s skills on the field—including his speed and ability to take on defenders—have made him a standout player. In addition to his B team duties, he also made four appearances for the U19 squad in the UEFA Youth League, showcasing his talent on an international stage.
A Look at Nomoko’s Background
Born in Mali and relocating to Catalonia as a child, Nomoko has emerged not only as a promising player for FC Barcelona but also as a youth international. His ability to play effectively on either wing has drawn attention from coaches and scouts alike.
The loss of Nomoko for the upcoming year is a significant blow for both the B team and the club’s future prospects. His performances had positioned him as one of the bright hopes for FC Barcelona’s attacking lineup. The club and its supporters will undoubtedly be eager to see him return to full fitness and contribute to the team’s ambitions in the future.
As Nomoko embarks on his recovery journey, FC Barcelona remains committed to supporting him through rehabilitation, ensuring he can return stronger and ready to reclaim his spot on the pitch.
