Liverpool Eyes Marc Guehi and Micky van de Ven Ahead of Transfer Window
Liverpool is actively exploring transfer options as the club faces mounting injury challenges and seeks to strengthen its squad ahead of the crucial period in the season. Under head coach Arne Slot, the defending Premier League champions are currently in a strong position, remaining unbeaten in their last eleven matches. This run has placed them in contention for a top-four finish and Champions League qualification, even as they prepare for upcoming fixtures against Burnley, Marseille, and Bournemouth.
Injuries continue to plague the squad, with the recent news that Conor Bradley will miss the remainder of the season due to a serious knee injury. Bradley has since undergone surgery, further complicating Liverpool’s defensive needs as they approach a busy schedule including matches at Anfield against Newcastle United and Manchester City later this month.
Guehi’s Preference Amid Liverpool Interest
One of the primary targets for Liverpool is Marc Guehi, currently of Crystal Palace. Reports indicate that Guehi has expressed a preference to leave Selhurst Park this summer. According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Crystal Palace is demanding between £35 million and £40 million for the 25-year-old England international. This transfer window represents a critical opportunity for the club to secure funds from Guehi’s potential departure, especially as his contract is set to expire in the summer.
Guehi’s previous move to Liverpool fell through last summer when Crystal Palace opted to retain him, but the Reds are still keen on acquiring his services. Despite Liverpool’s interest, it has been reported that Manchester City is also considering a bid for the defender, reflecting the competitive market surrounding his signature.
Van de Ven Emerges as a Key Option
In addition to Guehi, Micky van de Ven of Tottenham Hotspur has surfaced as another potential target. The 24-year-old defender has become a valuable asset for Spurs, but recent reports suggest he may be dissatisfied with his current situation, particularly as the club struggles in the lower half of the Premier League table.
Liverpool had previously shown interest in Van de Ven before his move to Tottenham, and with Ibrahima Konate expected to leave at the end of the season and Virgil van Dijk entering the final year of his contract, the Reds are keen to bolster their defensive options. Caught Offside has indicated that Van de Ven is even considering a move to Liverpool as he seeks to enhance his career prospects.
As the January transfer window approaches, Liverpool is also monitoring the situation of Kostas Tsimikas. The defender, currently on loan at AS Roma, has struggled for playing time since the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. Italian outlets report that Roma is looking for a replacement, potentially allowing Tsimikas to return to Liverpool.
Liverpool’s management faces a challenging landscape as they navigate the transfer market while striving to maintain their competitive edge in the Premier League and European competitions. With injury concerns mounting, the club’s decisions in the coming weeks could significantly impact their season’s trajectory.
