Liverpool Urged to Re-sign Harry Wilson as Contract Expires
Liverpool is facing calls to bring back former player Harry Wilson as his contract with Fulham approaches its end. Two prominent football figures have advocated for the move, highlighting Wilson’s impressive form this season. The 28-year-old Welsh international has scored seven goals and provided four assists, marking what many consider the best season of his career.
Wilson began his journey at Liverpool, spending 17 years in the club’s academy before making just two appearances for the first team. After successful loan spells with clubs like Hull City, Derby County, and Fulham, he made a permanent transfer to the Cottagers in 2021 for a fee of £12 million. With Fulham currently sitting 10th in the Premier League, just five points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, speculation is growing about the possibility of a return to Anfield.
Fulham manager Marco Silva confirmed that discussions are ongoing with Wilson’s representatives regarding his contract situation. With his deal expiring at the end of the season, Liverpool may see this as an opportune moment to re-sign the player. This notion is supported by both former Liverpool defender Stephane Henchoz and former manager Sam Allardyce.
Henchoz commented, “When a player is available on a free transfer, it makes the decision very different.” He emphasized the importance of evaluating not just immediate performance but also potential resale value, noting Liverpool’s recent transfer strategies involving players like Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike.
Allardyce echoed this sentiment, highlighting the potential for Wilson’s game to improve alongside top-tier players at Liverpool. Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, he remarked, “It wouldn’t surprise me if he’s already receiving calls from other clubs, especially since he is available for free.” Allardyce noted the challenge Wilson may face in handling the pressure of returning to a larger club but believes the move could elevate his game.
Wilson has already demonstrated his capabilities against Liverpool this season, scoring during a notable 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage earlier this month. As Liverpool assesses its options for bolstering the right wing, Wilson’s return could be a strategic move that aligns with the club’s future plans.
As the Premier League season progresses, the football community will be watching closely to see if Liverpool acts on these recommendations and secures the return of a player who has both history with the club and the experience needed to contribute effectively in the top tier.
