Severe Flooding Displaces Krasnići Family in Nikšić Again

Heavy rainfall has once again caused significant flooding for the Krasnići family in Nikšić, Montenegro. The family home, which has suffered damage from previous weather-related incidents, is now inundated with water, severely disrupting their daily lives. This information was reported by the non-governmental organization (NGO) Center for the Affirmation of the Roma-Egyptian Population (CAREP).

The Krasnići family consists of two parents and five children, living in the Trebjesa neighborhood. The repeated flooding has forced them into inadequate living conditions, leading to material losses and an urgent need for additional support. CAREP, in collaboration with the Foundation Volunteers of Montenegro, is providing the family with temporary assistance, including food and hygiene supplies.

In their statement, CAREP expressed gratitude to the local fire service for their multiple interventions to protect the household. Authorities in Nikšić are aware of the situation, with Milajim Delija, an independent advisor in the municipality for the protection of the rights of the Roma and Egyptian population, involved in addressing the issue.

“We believe that, within their competencies and in cooperation with the civil sector, the possibilities for long-term solutions will be considered,” Delija stated. He also highlighted that the Krasnići family is eager for employment and is prepared to work. CAREP has issued an open call to institutions and public enterprises to consider hiring candidates from socially vulnerable families if there is a need for labor.

The organization remains committed to collaboration and joint action aimed at supporting families facing similar challenges. The situation underscores the urgent need for effective solutions to address the recurring issues of flooding and its impact on vulnerable communities in Montenegro.
