Former England striker Tammy Abraham is set on returning to the Premier League, reportedly targeting a move to Aston Villa. After nearly five years away from England’s top flight, the 28-year-old forward has emerged as a potential addition to Villa’s squad as they look to bolster their attacking options. Under the guidance of manager Unai Emery, the club is keen to support key striker Ollie Watkins with additional firepower.

Currently, Abraham is on loan at Besiktas, who have an obligation to buy him permanently from Roma this summer. This season, he has made a notable impact, scoring 12 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions. His performances in Turkey have drawn attention, with European football journalist Andy Brassell commenting on his progress. Speaking on TalkSport, Brassell noted that Abraham has adapted his game significantly, becoming a more versatile player despite a challenging recent history.

Injuries have affected Abraham’s career trajectory. Following an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the summer of 2023, he had limited opportunities at Roma and only started 17 matches during a loan spell at AC Milan. Despite these setbacks, his time at Besiktas has showcased his determination and skill, leading to speculation about a return to English football.

A move back to the Premier League could enhance Abraham’s chances of being selected for the England national team, particularly with the upcoming World Cup in mind. Competition for places includes other forwards like Ivan Toney and Danny Welbeck, who are also on the radar of national team selectors.

During his previous loan spell at Villa in the 2018/2019 season, Abraham played a crucial role in the team’s promotion from the Championship, scoring an impressive 26 goals in 40 appearances. This track record makes him a familiar and appealing option for Villa as they aim to strengthen their position in the league.

Currently, Aston Villa sits third in the Premier League, level on points with Manchester City and only six points behind leaders Arsenal. With Donyell Malen expected to depart Villa Park for Roma, a straightforward switch for Abraham could materialize as Villa seeks to maintain their competitive edge.

As the transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on Abraham’s next move, which could mark a significant chapter in his career and provide him with the opportunity to shine once again in the Premier League.
