In an exhilarating display of football prowess, both Tenby and Hakin United secured impressive victories in the first round of the Maderwood Pembrokeshire Football League Senior Cup on March 16, 2024. Tenby triumphed over Haverfordwest Cricket Club with a stunning score of 7–1, while Hakin United delivered a remarkable 10–0 defeat to Pendine, showcasing their dominance in the tournament.

Tenby wasted no time establishing their superiority against Haverfordwest. The hosts surged into a two-goal lead within the first seven minutes, thanks to goals from Shaun Whitfield and Robson Evans. The standout performance came from Scott Ferney, who netted five goals, effectively sealing the match before Haverfordwest could regroup. Although Jason Griffiths managed to score for the visitors early in the second half, Tenby’s victory was already assured.

Hakin United’s Ruthless Performance

Hakin United mirrored Tenby’s success with an equally commanding performance against Pendine. The match, having been postponed twice due to adverse weather, took place at The Obs, where Hakin wasted no time asserting their control. Just twelve minutes into the game, Leon Luby assisted Matthew Broome for the opening goal. Luby continued to make an impact by providing another assist for Ashley Bevan, contributing to an impressive first half that concluded with Hakin leading 5–0.

The second half saw Cameron Brunton replicate Ferney’s five-goal feat, completing his hat-trick by the 60th minute and adding two more goals to his tally. Liam Parks also got in on the action, making it nine goals for Hakin. Bevan capped off the scoring in stoppage time with a stunning curling strike that secured his own treble.

Milford United also advanced to the next round with a 3–1 victory over Kilgetty. Goals from Liam Parr (penalty), Scott Reid, and substitute Joshua Lees ensured their place, while Jordan Gorman found the net for the visitors. New Hedges Saundersfoot joined the winners after a hard-fought 4–2 extra-time victory against Fishguard Sports, further showcasing the competitive spirit of the tournament.

As the Senior Cup progresses, the remarkable performances from Tenby and Hakin United highlight their ambitions to reclaim the title, setting the stage for an exciting tournament ahead.
