Tivat School Confirms Transport Funding for Herceg Novi Students

The administration of JU SMŠ „Mladost“ Tivat has clarified recent claims regarding the discontinuation of transport funding for students commuting from Herceg Novi. The school issued a statement affirming that the funding remains in place, countering reports that the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation of Montenegro had ceased financial support for student travel.

On December 1, 2023, parents from the school expressed their concerns, stating that a decision by the municipality of Herceg Novi and the Ministry would eliminate transport funding for their children. They emphasized their distress over the potential discontinuation of transportation services, which they rely on for their children’s daily commute.

In response, JU SMŠ „Mladost“ Tivat reiterated that the current funding model continues without interruption. The Ministry contributes 20 percent of the travel costs, while the municipality of Herceg Novi covers the remaining 80 percent. The school administration clarified that the ongoing transport services remain secure despite any operational challenges with their transport provider.

The school explained that the transport provider recently requested an additional €2,000 to maintain the service for the line connecting Herceg Novi to Tivat. This financial request is the only issue impacting transport, not any decision made by the Ministry or the school itself. In their statement, the administration emphasized their commitment to ensuring that no student is denied their right to regular transport, highlighting their continuous communication with local authorities and relevant ministries to find solutions.

The situation illustrates the complexities involved in funding educational transport services, and JU SMŠ „Mladost“ Tivat remains dedicated to resolving these challenges to support the needs of their students.
