Young Handball Star Nina Ramusovic Set for 2026 Champions League Return
Montenegro’s young handball sensation, Nina Ramusovic, is poised to make her return to the Champions League on January 10, 2026, after a challenging recovery from a knee injury. The 18-year-old athlete, who has already demonstrated exceptional talent on the court, has faced significant setbacks yet remains optimistic about her future.
Ramusovic’s journey has not been easy. She suffered two serious injuries to her anterior cruciate ligament early in her career, which led to significant interruptions. Despite these challenges, her dedication and talent have made her a valuable asset to Montenegro’s handball scene. After showcasing her skills in the lower leagues with clubs like Berane and Nikšić, she quickly earned a spot on the first team of Buducnost.
Road to Recovery
Last year, while competing in Germany, Ramusovic made her debut in the Champions League at just 17 years old but faced another setback due to injury. Following surgery, her rehabilitation lasted until late 2023. With unwavering support from her family and coaches, she worked tirelessly to regain her strength and skills. “I have prepared my mind as well as my body for this comeback,” Ramusovic stated, highlighting her mental resilience.
During her recovery, she focused not only on physical training but also on education and personal development. “I organized my time well and prioritized my recovery,” she explained. Her commitment was supported by Milivoje Đurđić, her conditioning coach, and physiotherapist Mitar Vujović, who played crucial roles in her rehabilitation process.
Ramusovic expressed deep gratitude towards her coaches, Maja and Zoran, who guided her during the World Championship. “They taught me invaluable lessons,” she noted, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and support.
Passion for Handball
After months away from the court, Ramusovic’s excitement to return is palpable. “I was counting down the days. This is my greatest desire,” she shared, her eyes filled with emotion. “Handball brings me immense joy.” Her determination is evident, as she confidently stated that she was ready for any challenge upon her return.
Although she missed the opportunity to compete in the European Championship last summer, Ramusovic remained engaged, attending every match of her peers and cheering for their success. “I have followed and supported my teammates. I’m thrilled with how well they performed,” she said, looking forward to rejoining them in competition.
As Buducnost gears up for the final stages of the group stage, they hold out hope for a spot in the knockout phase of the Champions League. Ramusovic remains optimistic about their chances, stating, “We have to fight for every point, and I believe our results will come.”
Looking ahead, Ramusovic has her sights set on joining the senior national team. “That’s my dream,” she affirmed, illustrating her ambition and passion for the sport. She expressed appreciation for former coach Bojana Popović, who played a significant role in her development before her departure.
Nina Ramusovic’s story is one of resilience, dedication, and an unwavering love for handball. As she prepares to step back onto the court, the handball community eagerly anticipates her contributions to both Buducnost and the national team in the years to come.
