Authorities Seize Nearly £59,000 at Montenegrin Border Crossing

At the Debeli Brijeg border crossing, authorities confiscated nearly £59,000 from a Greek citizen attempting to enter Montenegro. The incident occurred when officers from the Regional Centre for Border Police South in Herceg Novi, in collaboration with the Customs Administration and representatives from Frontex, intercepted a vehicle for inspection.

During the examination of a Mercedes E-class car with British license plates, police discovered a total of £58,935 and an additional £60 in Scottish currency. The funds were hidden under floor mats, in seat pockets, and within the individual’s belongings, demonstrating an effort to conceal the money from authorities.

Following the discovery, the Special Police Department was notified, and officers temporarily confiscated the found currency for further investigation. As a result of this incident, the Greek citizen, identified as I.M., aged 34, received a formal decision barring him from entering Montenegro.

This operation underscores the ongoing efforts by Montenegrin authorities to combat illicit financial activities, particularly at border crossings. The collaboration with international agencies like Frontex highlights the commitment to ensuring that proper regulations are enforced and that suspicious activities are promptly addressed.
