Bitter Cold Grips Montenegro as Temperatures Plunge Below -21°C
A severe cold snap has swept across Montenegro, with temperatures plummeting to record lows. According to the Zavod za Hidrometeorologiju i seizmologiju Crne Gore, the coldest temperature recorded was an alarming -21.4°C in Kosanica, near Pljevlja, as of 19:00 local time. This chilling measurement underscores the extreme winter conditions affecting the region.
The new weather station in Pljevlja has not yet commenced operations, but preliminary data indicates that temperatures fell to -11°C. Other areas in northern Montenegro experienced similarly frigid conditions. Near Žabljak, the temperature was recorded at -9.6°C, while Njeguđi reached -14.9°C and Kovren hit -10.6°C at the same time.
Snow Accumulation in Northern Regions
Snowfall has also been significant across several locations. The latest data reveals that Berane, Žabljak, and Pljevlja have recorded the highest snow depths this morning. At 07:00, Kolasin measured 35 cm of snow, while Žabljak reported 24 cm and Pljevlja recorded 19 cm.
As the cold weather persists, residents are urged to take precautions against the extreme temperatures. The meteorological service warns that conditions may remain harsh in the coming days, making it essential for individuals to stay informed about weather updates and to prepare for potential disruptions caused by snow and ice.
Overall, this winter has already proven to be one of the colder seasons in recent memory for Montenegro, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation as they continue to provide updates on the weather and its impact on daily life.
