Fuel Shortage Disrupts Water and Sanitation in Gaza’s Khan Younis

The municipality of Khan Younis in Gaza has reported a significant fuel shortage that is severely impacting essential services, particularly water and sanitation. On September 27, 2023, officials stated that the daily requirement for operating these facilities is approximately 3,000 litres of diesel. However, the available supply is limited to less than one-third of this amount, forcing operational capacity down to only 20 percent.

The crisis arises from ongoing restrictions imposed by Israeli authorities, which have restricted the supply of fuel into Gaza. As a result, the municipality can no longer maintain adequate levels of clean water and sanitation for its residents.
