Patriots’ Christian Barmore Charged with Domestic Assault Before Super Bowl

Christian Barmore, a key player for the New England Patriots, faces a charge of domestic assault related to an incident that occurred on August 8, 2023. The 26-year-old defensive lineman has been charged with assault and battery on a family or household member, according to court documents from the Attleborough District Court, as reported by WCVB.

The allegations stem from a confrontation in Mansfield, Massachusetts, where Barmore is said to have become upset over the temperature in his bedroom and a disagreement over food with the unnamed victim, who claimed to have been in a relationship with him. The victim reported that during an attempt to escape the situation, Barmore allegedly took her phone and physically restrained her. She stated that he “grabbed her before she could” reach the door to call for help and threw her to the floor. The victim also claimed that Barmore held her shirt near her neck while she tried to get up.

The altercation reportedly occurred in front of the couple’s two-year-old child. The victim later informed police that she had sustained bruises from the incident and arranged for a car service to take her and her child to Delaware. After initially hesitating to file charges due to concerns about retaliation, the victim officially reported the incident in September. She subsequently expressed a desire to withdraw from legal proceedings in December but was informed that the complaint had already been filed on December 16.

Barmore’s arraignment is scheduled for February 3, 2026, just five days before the Super Bowl, which will be held in California. His attorney, David Meier, stated, “We are confident that the evidence will demonstrate that no criminal conduct took place.” He expressed optimism that the matter would be resolved swiftly and amicably.

The New England Patriots have released a statement acknowledging awareness of the charges against Barmore and confirming that they informed the NFL about the incident in a timely manner. On January 23, Diggs is expected to face arraignment related to charges of felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery stemming from a December 2 incident involving a private chef. The chef alleged that Diggs struck her and attempted to choke her over a financial dispute.

In response to the accusations against Diggs, the Patriots issued a statement supporting their player, who has denied the allegations. “Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations,” the statement read. The Patriots reiterated their commitment to gathering information and cooperating with authorities regarding both incidents while refraining from further comment.
