Police in Edinburgh are appealing for information following an incident where an 81-year-old man was struck by a vehicle on New Year’s Day. The collision occurred in the early hours of January 1, 2026, while the elderly pedestrian was walking on Queensferry Street, near Dean Bridge.

Emergency services responded quickly to the scene, transporting the injured man to a hospital where he was treated for serious injuries. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported in relation to this incident.

Public Appeal for Information

Authorities are now urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash to come forward. They recognize the busy nature of the evening, as it was Hogmanay, resulting in a high volume of pedestrians and vehicles in the vicinity of the city centre. The police are particularly interested in hearing from individuals who may have dashcam footage from that time and location.

Sergeant Christopher Bright of Road Policing East stated, “We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash or who has any information to come forward. We know that this was a busy evening with it being Hogmanay and that there were a number of pedestrians and vehicles in the area at the time, so we’d ask those who have yet to speak to us to get in touch. In addition, we’d ask those with dash-cam footage to review this to see if it has captured anything significant.”

The vehicle involved in the collision is reported to be a white Suzuki Ignis.
