Heavy rainfall over the past several days has led to significant flooding in Montenegro, affecting homes and infrastructure. In Danilovgrad, houses and roads have been submerged, while parts of major highways in the northern region have collapsed. The Operational Communication Center 112, part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, reported receiving approximately 400 calls from citizens in the last 24 hours, according to Irena Bulajic, an advisor at the center.

As of this morning, the water level of the Moraca River in Podgorica reached nearly 11 meters, approaching record highs. In the Beri neighborhood, water has entered two homes, flooding streets and properties. Locals fear that if the rain continues, the bridge over the Sitnica River could be at risk. In Danilovgrad, homes on one side of the Zeta River bridge have also been flooded. The Zeta River is experiencing high water levels in Rogami, where the area around the Đedovina Restaurant has been inundated.

Transport disruptions have occurred due to the flooding, with the main road between Danilovgrad and Niksic closed at Orja Luka. The local municipality announced that traffic is currently being redirected through an alternative route via Peshtan – Šarena Ploča – Orja Luka, urging drivers to exercise patience and adhere to temporary traffic signals.

Critical Situation in Northern Montenegro

Conditions in the northern region are also critical, highlighted by images showing sections of asphalt washed away on the road to Jelovica. Fortunately, authorities confirmed that there have been no reported injuries from the flooding.

The Pljevlja Coal Mine has indicated that it is facing significant challenges in coal extraction and delivery to the TE Pljevlja power plant due to the heavy rains affecting the municipality of Pljevlja.

The mine’s operational team is currently assessing the situation and making every effort to ensure the safe continuation of operations and stable coal supply to TE Pljevlja. They emphasized the importance of following all safety and technical procedures to maintain the stability of the mining and energy system.

Severe Weather Impacts Southern Montenegro

In southern Montenegro, severe weather accompanied by strong southern winds and high waves has threatened four accommodation units in the nudist resort at Ada Bojana. The HTP “Ulcinjska Rivijera” reported that these properties were partially submerged; however, there is a realistic chance that they may be preserved since the water has started to recede. Despite this, officials warn that erosion and extreme weather conditions continue to pose serious risks to the area.

As authorities work to manage the fallout from these unprecedented weather events, residents across affected regions remain alert and prepared for further developments.
