Severn Hospice’s Christmas Fayre Attracts Crowds in Shrewsbury
The annual Christmas fayre at Severn Hospice in Shrewsbury drew a lively crowd this weekend, showcasing a variety of crafts, seasonal treats, and unique gifts. The event, held at the hospice’s Bicton Heath location, took place on December 16 and 17, 2023, from 10:00 to 16:00 each day. This popular gathering is part of the hospice’s ongoing efforts to raise funds for its vital services.
More than 20 stalls lined the venue, offering an array of handmade items perfect for holiday shopping. Guests enjoyed live music throughout the weekend, featuring performances by The Ronnies, who specialize in 1940s music, as well as the Severn Harmony Choir. Festive refreshments complemented the atmosphere, while Father Christmas delighted children with visits to his grotto, providing early gifts and spreading holiday cheer.
Among the artisans was Nicky Worthing, one of the hospice’s gardeners, selling handmade Christmas-themed cushions. Worthing highlighted the dedication of local creators, stating, “Lots of very talented and clever ladies and gentlemen from all around have brought them in for us to sell at the fayre.” She noted that the cushions cater to various needs, including those designed for dementia patients and colorful options for babies.
The excitement surrounding the event was amplified by the hospice’s festive raffle, which aims to raise crucial funds for its specialized care services. This year, one fortunate winner will receive a jackpot of £5,000, with a total of 43 cash prizes available. The winners will be announced on December 19, 2023.
Severn Hospice plays a critical role in the community, providing compassionate care to families dealing with incurable illnesses. The organization reports spending more than £26,000 every day to support local families. Last year, nearly 3,000 families received care that emphasizes dignity and compassion—hallmarks of the hospice’s mission.
The Christmas fayre not only showcases local talent but also fosters a sense of community and support for the hospice’s essential services. As visitors left with their festive purchases and memories of a joyful weekend, the event reaffirmed the importance of community spirit during the holiday season.
