Taheen Modak Champions SafeCall Campaign for Missing Children
Actor Taheen Modak has publicly endorsed The Independent’s SafeCall campaign, which aims to raise £165,000 to assist the approximately 70,000 children who go missing each year in the UK. This initiative, in partnership with the charity Missing People, seeks to establish a new service designed to provide critical support for children in crisis.
SafeCall will be a vital resource for young individuals, offering them the safety, support, and connection they require. The service has been co-designed and piloted by young people themselves, ensuring it meets the specific needs of those it aims to help. Modak, known for his role in Two Weeks To Live, highlighted the importance of giving missing children “the choice to make a better next step to take a path towards health and safety.”
The campaign’s fundraising efforts are crucial, with every donation directly impacting the lives of vulnerable children. Individuals can contribute by donating online or by texting SAFE to 70577 to give £10 to Missing People, which is enough to provide assistance for one child in need.
How SafeCall Will Operate
The SafeCall service is not just about responding to emergencies; it is designed to empower children with options and guidance during difficult times. By connecting young people with resources and support networks, SafeCall aims to foster a sense of security and hope.
For those who may find themselves or someone they care about missing, Missing People offers free, confidential, and non-judgmental support. Individuals can reach out by calling or texting 116 000. This service provides vital advice, assistance, and options for those in distress.
The Independent and Modak’s collaboration underscores the urgency of addressing the issue of missing children in the UK. The staggering number of children reported missing annually highlights the need for effective solutions that prioritize safety and well-being.
As the campaign progresses, the hope is to not only reach the fundraising goal but also to raise awareness about the challenges faced by missing children and the importance of community support in addressing these issues. With the backing of influential voices like Taheen Modak, the SafeCall initiative is set to make a significant impact on the lives of many young individuals across the country.
