Vuković Critiques Bojović’s Remarks on Montenegrin Language

Jovana Vuković, a member of the Executive Board of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has criticized comments made by Dragan Bojović of the Democratic People’s Party (DNP) regarding the Montenegrin language. Vuković described Bojović’s claims of “violent assimilation” linked to the use of the Montenegrin language in schools as mere political manipulation and a deliberate provocation.

In a public statement, Vuković responded directly to Bojović’s assertion that naming the subject as Montenegrin/Serbian, Bosnian, Croatian Language and Literature constitutes a significant form of discrimination and an attempt at “violent assimilation.” She emphasized that teaching children the official language of the country they live in is a fundamental aspect of any sovereign and democratic state.

“Attempts to portray the Montenegrin language as a threat represent a direct attack on the constitutional order and statehood of Montenegro,” Vuković stated. She criticized Bojović for not advocating for any rights but instead continuing an ideological battle against the state, following a well-known pattern.

Vuković pointed out that such narratives serve as a smokescreen for the ongoing environmental crisis in Pljevlja and hinder Montenegro’s European integration efforts. She asserted that Bojović’s manipulative tactics and those of his affiliated structures would not obscure the truth or prevent citizens from demanding accountability and concrete solutions for the country’s real issues.

“As for the language, the Montenegrin language is not a matter of debate but a constitutional reality that cannot be erased,” Vuković concluded. Her comments highlight the ongoing tensions surrounding language and identity in Montenegro, reflecting broader discussions about national identity and statehood in the region.
