Greene Critiques US Leaders for Hypocrisy on Drug Policy and Wars
Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has publicly criticized U.S. leaders for what she views as hypocrisy regarding drug trafficking and foreign military interventions. In a statement on X, Greene outlined her concerns, emphasizing her belief in the need for stronger border security while highlighting contradictions in U.S. foreign and security policy during her tenure on the Homeland Security Committee.
Greene stated, “I’ve served on the Homeland Security Committee for the past three years. I’m 100% for strong, safe, secure borders and stopping narco terrorists and cartels from trafficking deadly drugs and human trafficking into America.” She pointed to fentanyl as a significant threat, indicating that it is responsible for over 70% of drug overdose deaths in the U.S. She attributed the influx of fentanyl to Mexican cartels, which obtain chemical precursors from China and transport the substance across the U.S.-Mexico border.
The congresswoman contended that Mexican cartels hold primary responsibility for the rising number of drug-related fatalities in the U.S. She questioned the focus of U.S. military action, noting that the government has concentrated efforts on Venezuela instead of addressing the dangers posed by drug trafficking organizations along the southern border. “If U.S. military action and regime change in Venezuela was really about saving American lives from deadly drugs, then why hasn’t the Trump administration taken action against Mexican cartels?” she asked.
Greene also criticized former President Donald Trump’s decision to pardon former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez, who had been sentenced to 45 years for drug trafficking. She linked this pardon to a broader pattern of prioritizing foreign political interests over domestic safety. “Why did President Trump pardon the former Honduran President who was convicted and sentenced for trafficking hundreds of tons of cocaine into America?” she inquired.
The congresswoman further suggested that U.S. efforts to remove Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro were motivated by an interest in the country’s oil resources rather than humanitarian concerns. “By removing Maduro, this is a clear move for control over Venezuelan oil supplies that will ensure stability for the next obvious regime change war in Iran,” Greene stated.
She raised concerns about perceived double standards in international conflicts, questioning why U.S. military actions are justified while similar actions by nations like Russia and China are condemned. Greene stated, “Why is it okay for America to militarily invade, bomb, and arrest a foreign leader but Russia is evil for invading Ukraine and China is bad for aggression against Taiwan?” She emphasized that her criticism was not an endorsement of these countries’ actions.
Greene pointed out that public frustration is growing as taxpayers feel the impact of rising living costs while funds are directed toward foreign conflicts. “Regime change, funding foreign wars, and Americans’ tax dollars being consistently funneled to foreign causes while Americans are facing increasing costs of living is what has most Americans enraged,” she said.
The congresswoman noted that younger generations are increasingly rejecting what she termed “never-ending military aggression.” She concluded that neither major U.S. political party currently offers solutions that focus on domestic economic prosperity. Greene’s remarks underscore a significant discourse around U.S. foreign policy and its implications for domestic issues, suggesting a need for reevaluation of priorities in the current political climate.
